- Engineering the Sense of Touch(59:58) Jeremy D. Brown, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, is making significant strides in advancing the science of touch in human-robot interaction. Specifically, his research group, the Haptics and Medical Robotics (HAMR) Laboratory, seeks to generate and discover fundamental principles governing haptic (touch) feedback and apply these principles to the development of robotic haptic interfaces that restore and enhance human dexterity.During this talk, brought to you by Hopkins at Home, Brown explains the foundations of touch perception and haptic feedback. He then expounds on robotic applications where touch is essential, including upper-limb prostheses and minimally invasive surgical robotics.
